Beech Leaf Disease: Scientific Research and Silviculture

As Beech Leaf Disease (BLD) continues to threaten the American beech species in our forests, Bartlett Tree Experts and The Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories have initiated a new study of the disease in the high-density beech forest at the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. Led by Andrew Loyd, Plant Pathologist and Ph.D at The Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories, this experiment will determine if forest-level management of BLD can be achieved with an integrated approach using forestry and silvicultural techniques. This data will be helpful in assisting foresters, landowners, and government agencies in developing best mitigation strategies for this emergent disease, helping to preserve the American beech canopy in our forests.
