The Kodavas, a martial race, hailing from the Kodagu region of Karnataka held a 7-day, 80-kilometer-long ‘Padyatra’ from Kutta to Madikeri to demand protection for their cultural heritage. The march was prompted after Kodavas were barred from entering Kattemad Maha Mrityunjaya Temple in traditional attire. Kodavas have expressed concerns about socio-political alienation & cultural erosion and the march was to highlight their concerns over racial abuse, racial discrimination and social oppression faced by the community. ..............................................................................................
