This type of movement can also hide your intention by limiting the visible arm motions, or it can "fake out" your opponent when they think you are going to push but then don't, causing them to fall forward because of their own anticipation of the push. This looks simple on film, but when you try it with your training partner you will feel and understand how little momentum, speed and force is required to set someone completely off-balance.
