Ocean Beach is a beachfront neighborhood in San Diego, California, located about 7 miles northwest of downtown San Diego. It's bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west, Mission Bay to the east, Point Loma to the south, and the San Diego River to the north. The neighborhood has a relaxed and bohemian atmosphere, with a mix of surfers, artists, hippies, and young professionals. It's known for its independent spirit and activism, and has a strong community spirit. Ocean Beach has a long history, dating back to the late 1800s when it was developed as a resort destination. It was originally called Mussel Beach due to the abundance of mussels found in the area, but the name was later changed to Ocean Beach. One of the main attractions in Ocean Beach is the Ocean Beach Pier, a 1,971-foot-long pier that was originally built in 1966. It's a popular spot for fishing, strolling, and watching the sunset.
