Teach in given at the 2025 International Platypus Convention, Chicago, IL Thursday, April 3 3:30pm — 5:30pm CDT Matt Cavagrotti (Platypus) For decades, remnants of the American Left have remained in organized labor, believing socialist politics are key to its revival. In the wake of the second Sanders campaign’s defeat, the “Millennial Left” sees the recent surge in labor militancy—especially rank-and-file rebellion—as a second chance. Much like the labor insurgencies of the 1970s, today’s strikes and union drives are viewed as both a revival and a corrective. But what limited past movements, and what makes this moment different? Can rank-and-file militancy lay the foundation for a renewed socialist politics? This teach-in will be led by Matt, a current Teamsters union steward, and Nick Kreitman, a former Teamsters business agent. _________________________________ Curious to learn more about Platypus?
