The Grand Hotel was built in 1904 in the Liberty style, which was the Italian variant of Art Nouveau, flourishing from about 1890 to 1914. It was also known as "stile floreale" (floral style), "arte nuova" (new art), or "stile moderno" (modern style). It opened its doors in 1905 and was ahead of its time, featuring electricity, elevators, fresh drinking water, and telephones in all of its 250 rooms. The hotel was renowned among the higher class of society, including royalty, Nobel Prize winners, and the elite of Italian cinema, who came to the town known for its thermal springs. In 1979, the hotel had to close due to high operational costs, and the village of San Pellegrino lost much of its grandeur. Today, it holds the status of a cultural monument, and both public and private parties are working tirelessly to restore it to its belle époque splendor. In 2009, the 128-meter-long facade of the Grand Hotel underwent a complete renovation. Internal renovations began in 2016, but they are still seeking investors to reopen the doors of this magnificent building once more."
