In his v.1 release documentation Martin Dyde explains, "I have written Hauptwerk for my own pleasure and to enable people who would not normally have access to real pipe organs to experience them and make use of their sounds. You do not need to be a trained organist to use this program, and I hope that it will broaden the appeal of the instrument to as many people as possible. It can be used in real time as a practice instrument for the organ, for studio use with the aid of a sequencer, for composition or simply for the novelty value. I hope that it will find application in many fields beyond purely classical organ music. It may also find use for live music in venues where a real pipe organ is not available. It can, of course, never aim to replace a real pipe organ, and I would never want it to do so!" What a debt of gratitude we owe to Martin and the team that has expanded under the leadership of Milan Digital Audio. Countless hours of painstaking work by talented and committed people all over the world bring us the samplesets that allow us to study and enjoy the sounds of famous instruments in the comfort of our own homes. In this video, I pay homage to Hauptwerk 1 and demonstrate the sounds of the 1868 F. A. Mehmel Village Church Organ in St. Andreas Church, Nehringen/Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany; this set was carefully created by Prof H. Maier of Organ Art Media and was the first commercial set I purchased. It is still available! https://www.organartmedia.com/en/mehm... This recording was captured directly from the Hauptwerk 1 engine; no post-processing has been applied. I look forward to what the next 20 years brings and am particularly excited that the next generation of young organists have access to tools such as these to hone their musical skills.
