November 12, 2010 - Port Hope, Ontario. This particular part of Lakeshore Rd is dangerous, as there is a one-lane road leading through a bridge, and immediately afterward it turns into a sharp, uphill bend. A few of us missed the warning signs/signals from others leading the group, and took the turn too quickly. One rider unfamiliar with the area took the turn too wide, and was unable to compensate for speed and turn radius. He might have made it, but wound up hitting gravel on the shoulder of the road, and overshot the turn, tumbling off the road. His left mirror snapped off, and there are a few large cracks in the left fairings. Otherwise, he was lucky, and came out unhurt. You can tell in the video that I barely avoided fixating on him and following him off the road -- this is something you must be very careful of. It's very easy to fixate on what you want to avoid rather than where you need to go, but in this case I knew I would likely have slammed directly into, or landed on top of my friend and/or his bike. Last minute throttle adjustment, and pushing/leaning into the turn more, stopped that from happening. Scary moment, nonetheless!
