As a medical student at Zydus Medical College, I had the incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes at Zydus Hospital, Dahod, to understand a critical, yet often unseen, aspect of healthcare: biomedical waste management. In this video, I take you on a tour to show how Zydus Hospital meticulously handles and disposes of all its medical waste, from the point of generation in wards and labs to its final disposal. The hospital adheres to the strict guidelines of the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 (and its amendments), demonstrating a strong commitment to both patient and environmental safety. You will see the process of proper segregation at the source using the standardized color-coded bins: Yellow Bins: For human anatomical waste, soiled materials like dressings and cotton, and chemical waste. Red Bins: For all recyclable contaminated waste, such as tubing, bottles, IV sets, and catheters. White (Translucent) Bins: For sharp objects like needles, scalpels, and blades, which are disposed of in puncture-proof containers. Blue Bins: For glass bottles and cytotoxic waste. I'll also explain how the hospital ensures secure storage, safe transportation, and the final treatment of this waste. This visit was an eye-opening experience that highlighted the importance of every healthcare worker's role in maintaining a safe and sterile environment. This video is a must-watch for all medical students and anyone interested in the inner workings of a modern hospital's environmental and safety protocols. Join me as we explore how Zydus Hospital, Dahod, is a leader in responsible and effective biomedical waste management.
