Start Date: 24/01/2020 Our 10-day Buddhist pilgrimage was a deeply spiritual journey, visiting some of the most sacred sites associated with Lord Buddha. We began at Kesariya, home to the magnificent Kesariya Stupa, and then traveled to Vaishali, an important center of Buddhist history. From there, we visited Bodh Gaya, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree, followed by Niranjana, another sacred site rich in Buddhist heritage. The journey continued to Nalanda and Rajgir, where the ancient ruins and serene hills reflect the rich intellectual and meditative traditions of Buddhism. In Rajgir, we also visited Griddhakuta (Vulture’s Peak), where Buddha often delivered sermons to his followers. Next, we traveled to Varanasi and Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first sermon. The peaceful environment of Sarnath allowed for quiet reflection, while Varanasi showcased India’s timeless spiritual essence. We then visited Kushinagar, the site of Buddha’s Mahaparinirvana, followed by Shravasti, a place associated with many of Buddha’s teachings, and Kapilvastu, Buddha’s childhood home. Crossing into Nepal, we reached Lumbini, the revered birthplace of Lord Buddha, a place that brought a profound sense of completion and gratitude. The pilgrimage included 300+ devotees traveling in 8 reserved buses, organized by the Himalayan Sherpa Buddhist Culture Protection Society. I had the honor of serving as a volunteer nurse, alongside three other nurses, supporting the pilgrims’ health and well-being throughout the journey. This pilgrimage was not just travel—it was a path of faith, service, culture, and unforgettable spiritual connection. Note: Messy clips 😄 just for remembrance, but priceless pilgrimage memories.
