She was not an Israelite, and she had lived a sinful life (Joshua 2:1). When two spies came into the city, she hid them on her roof. She told them that she had heard how the Lord dried up the Red Sea and defeated mighty kings (Joshua 2:10). She believed that “the Lord your God, He is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath” (Joshua 2:11). Rahab asked that she and her family be spared when Israel attacked the city. The spies told her to tie a scarlet cord in her window and gather her family inside her house (Joshua 2:18–19). When Jericho fell, Rahab and her household were saved (Joshua 6:22–25). Her salvation was not because she was good, but because she believed in the true God. Hebrews 11:31 says she was saved “by faith.” James 2:25 shows her faith was living and active. Rahab’s story shows sovereign grace. God chose to show mercy to a Gentile woman with a sinful past. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8–9). The scarlet cord reminds us of the blood of Christ, which saves all who trust in Him. Rahab later became part of Israel and even an ancestor of Jesus (Matthew 1:5). This shows that God’s grace is powerful enough to change a life and include outsiders into His covenant family. 📖 Bible Readings: Joshua 2:1–14 (Joshua 2:18–21, Joshua 6:22–25, Hebrews 11:31, James 2:25, Matthew 1:5, Ephesians 2:8–9) 👨🏻💻 Teachings: 1. Faith in God is costly. [Treason] 2. Faith requires a change of allegiance. 3. Faith extends to the entire household. [Acts 16:31] 💪🏼 Applications: 1. Have faith in God even in the toughest times. 2. Demonstrate faith through courageous obedience. 3. Encourage our family members and friends to have faith in God. 🎙 Discussion: What does Rahab’s story teach us about faith? 🤿 Dive Deeper: How Rahab's story is a story of salvation through the gospel of Jesus Christ? 🙏🏼 Prayer: Father God, when I think about Rahab, I see how wide and powerful Your grace really is. She had a broken past, yet You did not turn her away. You saw her faith, and You saved her and her family. Thank You that Your mercy is not only for the strong or the good, but for sinners who believe. Sometimes I feel ashamed of my own failures, but Rahab reminds me that Your grace is greater than my past. Help me to trust You with a brave and honest heart. Let my faith be real, not just words. And please use my life so that the people in my home and around me may also see Your saving grace.
