Hawthorns Tunnel, also known as Euroclydon Tunnel or Drybrook Tunnel, is a disused railway tunnel in the Forest of Dean, England. It was built in 1874-1875, served as a munitions storage site for the Admiralty during WWII, and is now maintained by the Lea Bailey Light Railway. History: Constructed between 1874 and 1875, the tunnel remained unused until 1885. It carried only private freight traffic until 1917, when its rails were removed during World War I. During World War II, it was used by the Admiralty to store ammunition, requiring a special narrow gauge track to be laid inside. After the war, it was briefly used for mushroom cultivation before being closed to railway traffic in 1967. Modern Status: The tunnel is currently under the care of the Lea Bailey Light Railway. It is a S-shaped tunnel that is approximately 638 yards long. It is often securely locked to prevent unauthorized access, though special access is sometimes granted for monitoring its condition. There are plans for potential future use by the railway, possibly for a narrow gauge line. #fypviral #abandoned #urbanexplorers #urbex #urbanadventure #abandoned @JoeBloggs-o4o @ParkinsonsWalks @Somersetmanwalking @abandonedrailwaya2470 @westcountrywanderings stcountrywanderings
