The most common way to create a gated snare is to run it through reverb and then place a gate after the reverb. This technique requires too much work and tweaking. There's a much easier way to achieve the same gated snare effect and it involves a delay instead of reverb. A lot of producers don't use delays for what's called a slap back delay because there doesn't appear to be that many uses for it. But if we begin to think of slap back delays as a way to create more stereo width in our mixes then the applications start to become very obvious.
