Minnesota has changed since the last session ended. Now, Senate leaders share their reactions to some of those changes, and how they will impact their caucuses moving forward. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy, DFL- Saint Paul, explains the legislation the DFL caucus is prepared to put forward this session in response to the large federal presence in Minnesota, as well as her caucus’ efforts to pass a bonding bill. Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson, R-East Grand Forks, shares how his caucus will address the issues of gun violence and fraud this session, while also keeping bipartisanship at the forefront of Senate debates. Eric Nauman, with the nonpartisan Senate Counsel Research and Fiscal Analysis (SCRFA) office, explains why this session will also have a special focus on capital improvements and infrastructure. He also details senators’ options when it comes to balancing the budget for the next biennium, fiscal years 28-29. And if there’s a bill or topic you’re interested in following this session, Senate Spotlight host Veronica Marshall explains one way to easily track it.
