We went in four my 34 week perinatal check hoping to just get some updates on baby, and wound up with a first class ticket to the hospital for the weekend (possibly longer). When the doctors first discovered Marsaili’s neurological (and other) abnormalities at 20 weeks, they saw that my amniotic fluid levels were already slightly elevated. The Amniotic Fluid Index (AFI) is a quantitative measure given to describe amniotic fluid levels and is meant to give an idea of general well-being of the baby. For most of the second half of this pregnancy, my AFI has been fluctuating around 28, with anything above 25 being considered “high” or “poly.” However, at my 34 week check, my AFI was 47, a shocking and concerning increase from just a couple of weeks prior. An AFI that high put me at risk for preterm labor, premature membrane rupture (water breaking), umbilical cord prolapse, and placental abruption, which could be life threatening for me and for Marsaili. With all of that in mind, we knew the hospital was the safest place for us to be. We knew we would be very closely monitored by an excellent medical team until it was time for delivery and even beyond. We are so very grateful for our village of people who have surrounded us with love and support, for our medical team that continues to wow us every step of the way, and for our family all over the world checking in and praying for us on this journey. Though the weight of the uncertainty is heavy, we do not carry it alone, and we are confident the Lord who goes before us is working out everything for our good. We have faith in His goodness and in the many resources He has so faithfully provided us during this journey. It has been a blessing to watch Him use this very challenging piece of our family’s story to inspire and draw people closer to Him. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” James 1:2-3 // F O L L O W: Website | www.joyfulandrising.com Instagram | @joyfulandrising TikTok | @joyfulandrising // D I S C L A I M E R: The information in this video is for educational purposes ONLY and to share about our journey.
