BLACK WIDOW CHALLENGE! How many can I catch?

The black widow, supposedly one of the deadliest spiders in the world, but can they kill you? In short, NO! And I've even taken the bite to prove it! These lovely little spiders get a bad reputation but it is ill deserved. In North America we have three described species of black widow; Latrodectus mactans (Southern), Latrodectus hesperus (Western), and Latrodectus variolus (Northern) with subspecies of all. These spiders do possess an incredibly potent neurotoxic venom, but it's in such a small quantity it's unable to put a healthy adult in critical condition. Black widows are easy to capture as they tend to make visible webs in small open spaces or under rocks, logs, or trash. These are some of my favorite spiders in the world! Do you like black widows?
