In this episode of EI Dialogues, we interact with Dr. Dhir Jhingran. Watch Dhir highlight the learnings from his career, give some tips on multilanguage teaching, talk about how to take transformative ideas to scale, and describe his personal experiences in starting an organisation from scratch, after his stint in the government sector. About the guest Dhir Jhingran is the Founder Director of Language and Learning Foundation. He has worked in the primary education sector for over two decades, within and outside the government. As an officer of the Indian Administrative Service, he served as Principal Secretary, Education with the Government of Assam and as Director in the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Mission Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan as well as the District Primary Education Programme. In addition, he has handled several other profiles, such as Senior Advisor to UNICEF India, Asia Regional Director and Chief Program Officer with Room to Read and Country Director, TESS India. He has made significant contributions to the development and implementation of early grade reading programs in several countries in Asia and Africa and several states in India. About Language and Learning Foundation: LLF's vision is that all children will have strong foundational skills and abilities of language and literacy, thinking and reasoning. Based on this strong foundation, all children will learn and grow to their full potential. Language and Learning foundation conducts online / distance courses enable the teacher educators to develop instructional designs and other components of an early grade reading programme. Their flagship 9-month course includes 12 modules with essential and recommended readings, assignments to be completed after each module, fortnightly conference calls to discuss each module, and guidance to individual participants on email and phone. Each module is expected to be completed in around fifteen days. LLF is also building other courses on specialized topics in early literacy and multilingual education, and conducting research around the same. Currently, courses are being conducted with teachers in 5 states. Over the next three years, they are looking to scale their impact by providing intensive technical support to 3 states through a variety of strategies that focus on bringing change at the classroom level.
