The permit is checked by a Ranger at 7 miles and 4000 feet climb from the parking lot. This video covers the distance from the top of the Half Dome to the bottom of Sub Dome minus all the time waiting to get down the cables. Permits are obtained online 2 days before the day of your hike via the following link via a lottery: https://www.recreation.gov/permits/23... Expect the full hike to take 8-12 hours. Bring plenty of water (3L+) and do not attempt if you have a fear of heights... ... or enjoy the hike with this video at the comfort of your home.
