Zwift racing can feel brutal if you’re a lighter rider — and there’s a reason for that. In this video, I break down why lighter riders are at a disadvantage in Zwift racing, especially when most Zwift races take place on flat and rolling terrain. We’ll look at how Zwift’s physics model uses raw power and rider weight, why watts matter more than watts per kilo on the flats, and how that impacts lighter riders trying to hold wheels, descend, and survive fast race starts. To show this in action, I race Stage Three of the Tour de Zwift, using the race footage to explain how positioning, weight, and power output affect speed in real Zwift race scenarios. From fast starts to flat sections and late-race efforts, this race highlights exactly where lighter riders tend to struggle — even when fitness is solid. This isn’t about blaming Zwift. It’s about understanding how Zwift racing works, why certain body types perform better on different terrain, and how lighter riders can race smarter and adapt their strategy when climbs aren’t the deciding factor. If you’ve ever asked: – Why Zwift feels harder for light riders – Why watts per kilo don’t matter as much on flats – Why heavier riders feel faster in Zwift races – How Zwift physics calculate speed This video will answer those questions.
