Josima Feldschuh (1929–1943) – a Jewish pianist and composer born in Warsaw in 1929. From an early age, she displayed extraordinary musical talent, which she nurtured despite the harsh realities of wartime. During the German occupation, as a teenager, she lived in the Warsaw Ghetto, where she continued to compose and perform under extremely difficult conditions. At just 12 years old, Josima gained recognition in the ghetto for her virtuosic performances of Chopin’s works and her own compositions. Tragically, her promising career was cut short by the war. In 1943, as the situation in the ghetto worsened, Josima’s parents managed to smuggle her out of Warsaw. Sadly, she died of tuberculosis at the age of 14 while in hiding. Her surviving works, including preludes and piano miniatures, stand as a testament to her extraordinary talent and sensitivity. Though rarely performed today, Josima Feldschuh’s compositions hold immense artistic and historical value. They serve as a poignant reminder of the war’s devastation and the loss of young artists whose potential was never fully realized. A deeply moving voice of a gifted young composer whose legacy endures despite the tragedy of her time. #piano #josimafeldschuh #warsawghetto #music
