Naila Francis has raised her voice in a multitude of courageous ways: writer, poet, grief coach, death midwife, and ordained interfaith minister, among others. As a newspaper columnist, she shared heartfelt, deeply personal stories in her column Life in LaLa Land; as an entertainment reporter, she profiled distinguished artists and entertainers such as Brandi Carlile, Mavis Staples, Elizabeth Gilbert, Audra McDonald, and k.d. lang. Naila’s writing has also been featured on greeting cards for American Greetings, and her poetry has appeared in The Scribbler, North of Oxford, and Voicemail Poems. Though she continues to have a career in writing, being present at her father’s deathbed eventually led her to her vocation of holding space for the dying and the grieving — which she considers a beautiful complement to her work performing weddings, baby blessings, and rituals for other life passages.
