Marguerite Bourgeoys was a fashionable young woman in 17th-century France who loved pretty clothes and popularity. Then one day, she looked up at a statue of Mary and everything changed. She gave away her wardrobe, tried to become a nun, and was rejected by every single religious order. Years later, she crossed the Atlantic Ocean seven times in wooden ships, cleaned cattle waste out of a stable to create Canada's first school, housed 800 orphaned women sent to marry strangers in the wilderness, and fought bishops who tried to lock her behind convent walls. At age 79, she prayed to die in place of a younger sister who was gravely ill. Her prayer was answered. The sister recovered. Marguerite died within days. This is Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys, Canada's first female saint, whose feast day we celebrate on January 12th. In this episode, we explore: How rejection from religious orders was actually redirection to something bigger The revolutionary vision of women religious who could travel freely and serve actively Building schools in cattle stables and welcoming 800 Filles du Roi to New France The 40-year fight for canonical approval of her uncloistered community Her final act: offering her life for another's The Challenge: What closed doors are you still bitter about? What if they weren't rejections but redirections toward something bigger than you imagined? And where is God calling you to serve practically, concretely, in ways that make His love visible? Saint Marguerite shows us that holiness isn't about perfection or being naturally pious. It's about saying yes to God's call wherever it leads, and living that yes with every fibre of your being, right up to your final breath. 🙏 Perfect for anyone struggling with: Closed doors and seemingly unanswered prayers Understanding women's leadership in the church Balancing contemplation with active service Playing the long game when results seem impossible Making love practical and concrete 📖 PREFER TO READ OR LISTEN?
