How much time do we spend doing nothing during speedruns? Watch the video to find out, or just look at the spreadsheet linked below if you're in a hurry and hate fun and knowledge. Questions are welcome! I expected this video to be around 20 minutes long until I sat down and made it, which is becoming a theme for me. Data collection took quite a bit of time, but I'm happy to finally have real numbers for all of this, and I learned a lot along the way. Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/... Thanks to all the people who answered the questions I had about the games I'm less familiar with: minimini352, Player 5, cloudd, PippyInATopHat, Sledge, and YourAverageLink. Also to all the people whose clips I used for demonstration: Count, Smaugy, TKC, Marco, ChefBear, EnNopp, SiirZax, jess, jaiirou, bann, mini, Ace, An_D, Jacquaid, Kejs, Thunderbolt, Jasnix, YAL, Player 5, MoldyMeatballs, Xdri33s, and Mythicy. Almost all clips that don't have credit given within the video are clips of my own gameplay, the exceptions being a few cases where I felt having runner name(s) displayed might have been confusing with everything else going on on the screen. Many thanks to aitch for providing the backdrop for the TotK category name/percentage screens (thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks). 00:00 Intro 02:21 Defining "downtime" 03:59 Ocarina of Time 10:01 Majora's Mask 17:48 The Wind Waker 21:43 Twilight Princess 27:28 Skyward Sword 31:57 Breath of the Wild 34:37 Tears of the Kingdom 38:45 Notes and conclusions 44:05 Text mashing Corrections: 22:18 I realized right before posting the video that Any% wouldn't watch the sages cutscene anyway. Oops. Point still stands. 37:38 Having only played TotK for about 10 minutes myself, I assumed ascend couldn't be canceled partway through (and didn't think to ask Player 5 about this when I asked him some TotK questions), but Marsaw pointed out in the comments that it can be canceled, meaning it shouldn't count as downtime. Oops. Without ascend counting as downtime, TotK Glitchless and AD downtimes percentages decrease by 1% to 41% and 54% respectively.
