This film shows: an X-ray of a diseased tibia; gloved hands holding a scalpel; removal of old scar and sinuses from a diseased tibia; retractors are put in place to hold back the lips of the incision; diseased bone is exposed and the diseased parts taken out with chisel and mallet. The cavity is wiped out with tincture iodine and packed with vaseline gauze. Ten days post-operatively, the wound is shown, gauze being removed with forceps, and the wound beginning to heal. The wound is slow to epidermize so a skin flap is cut to put over it, stapled and sutured into place. A mallet hammers the staple into place. The wound is shown after 20 weeks almost completely healed. Six months post-operatively, an X-ray of the tibia shows saucerization of the bone.
