With the arrival of my additional SQ² Concert Toms, it was only right that I set the whole shell bank - at least for a photo. But ultimately I wanted to be able to record this monster; as a whole if I could. And whenever I think of a drummer / recordings utilising such drums - Phil Collins and Genesis is up there for me. 'Driving The Last Spike' is my fave Genesis track hands down. So the choice was easy for me. It's a slow burn, and like other songs Phil Collins is known for (e.g. In the Air Tonight) the drumming doesn't really start til 2:30. But the lyrical journey is worth the patience. It was so much fun trying to capture the vibe, and the drum sounds from the original record. Of course the open, huge sounding toms, and down to the bright ride cymbals, the cranked snare (could've used a piccolo as well) and big glassy crashes that Phil is known for. Needless to say, that drumming is so intense, Phil definitely set the bar pretty high. So many parts, dynamics and rolls down / up the toms. The array of concert toms definitely did the job, but maybe I should've ordered an 8" one too. I am very proud of how this recording turned out. Chuffed, thanks for checking it out.
