This is a recording of Dad (Wesley Swails - aka Gianni Savelli) in studio with voice teacher Lila Livian. Back to back the high C in Boheme then the cadenza with a C# in La donna e mobile. My guess would be he was studying to perform for the Amato Company in New York. They performed full operas with a piano costumes etc... It was the stepping stone to a career for many singers, my dad included. His placement and upper register is perfection & in the house it became rich & full. In studio it was so bright, I can still hear Lila's huge voice hollering LIFT LIFT. Lila had a nervous breakdown & lost her voice when she was young & fought to get it back developing exercises based on old school bel canto. She went on to teach voice because her voice tho powerful lost beauty. She was a wonderful short thickly built Jewish lady with huge ridiculous rhinestone glasses. She was a bomb going off in studio but like so many rough personalities she was a caring friend underneath. The biggest personality I've ever met. A force.
