QVC’s Dan Hughes shows us how to build a work bench for under $100. This budget-friendly bench can be the home base for all your home improvement projects! For the Work Bench Instructions & Other Projects: http://qvc.co/WorkBench Hi! My name is Dan Hughes, kind of the Do It Yourself guy on QVC. Can I build a work bench for under $100? The answer is yes. And so can you. All you need supplies wise would be 15 8 foot long 2x4s and a single sheet of ½ inch plywood. You’ll need to pick up a box of 3 inch screws and then 1 5/8 inch screws or what you can do and I’ll be doing it later is using a power nailer because I have the equipment available to me. The equipment that you’ll need to pull off this entire project is, and this is what your work bench will look like when you’re done, a circular saw, either a powered or a cordless screwdriver. I use simple measuring devices like a tape measure, a carpenter square and a drywall square. But even if you don’t have carpenter square and drywall square, just a spare piece of 2x4 will help you to make sure your lines are straight. Your work bench will start with what’s called a cut list and by the way, I’ll have a written blog for you that will outline all this, so you’ll know the length to cut the 2x4s that I’m going to ask you to pick up. That single sheet of plywood is not only going to make up the work bench surface, but also shelves that are up above and down below. So you have a place to store paint cans, a place to store additional tools and things of that nature. You’ll also have a detailed build sheet that will just give you an idea of how to frame things out and make it work. And at the very end, on this blog that you’ll soon see, will have a building diagram that shows you exactly where each of those boards are lined up. Now, the key to building any project is try to be as organized as possible. When you get done, the key is to have a work bench that’s stable, something that you can rely on and something that makes it easy for all your other projects to come to life. So, there you have it! Now you’ll have your work bench that will work for you and my job is to continue to bring you easy to do, simple, Do It Yourself projects that are fun to complete and then serve a purpose in your home.
