This is a short video from the March 22, 1970 National Hockey League game between the Bruins and the Minnesota North Stars in Boston, in which Bobby Orr broke the league record for assists in a season. The game originally aired on WSBK TV-38 in Boston, and highlights re-ran on NESN. The play-by-play announcer is Don Earle. Sublime young defenseman Orr had two goals and two assists in a 5-0 victory, his setup of an Ed Westfall tally giving him 78 assists and the record. After the PA man makes the announcement, the Garden crowd stands and cheers, and after a minute or so the humble No. 4 stands and acknowledges the ovation. Orr broke the record of 77, set the previous season by his teammate, Phil Esposito. Box score in comments. Copyright National Hockey League, WSBK TV-38, or any other party.
