Our place in the Universe | Ben Placek | TEDxChemungRiver

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. We are so busy living our lives we sometimes forget to look up with wonder at the enormity of the night sky. Are there planets in other solar systems similar to Earth? Ben Placek takes us on a wild tour to a few interesting places in our universe. Born and raised in Elmira, New York, Ben Placek is now a physicist working to detect planets outside our own solar system (exoplanets) using data from the Kepler Space Telescope. He began his education at Corning Community College, received his doctorate from SUNY Albany, and is now a physics professor at Schenectady County Community College. Through his involvement with TEDxChemungRiver, he hopes to spark conversation about our place in the universe and stimulate further interest in astronomy and science.
