On today’s episode of African Village Life, we followed Sunday Okeke, the hardworking husband of our African village mum Ebere, as he spent the entire day preparing the family farm for the coming farming season. The day started early in the morning as he said goodbye to his family before leaving the compound with his machete. Sitting briefly outside the house, he prepared himself mentally for the long day of work ahead before heading out. He walked through the village road greeting neighbors and villagers along the way until he reached the narrow bush path that leads deep into Akparata forest, where his farm is located. After arriving at the farm, he began the difficult task of cutting trees, clearing bushes, and preparing the land for farming. Clearing a forest farm in the African village is not easy work. With only a machete and determination, he worked tirelessly under the sun for over 7 hours. By afternoon, the farm had been cleared and prepared for planting. After finishing the heavy work, he made his way back home through the same bush paths and village roads. When he arrived home, his son Chibueze welcomed him with water to drink after the long hours of work. After resting and eating lunch, he went out again in the evening around 5pm to another part of the forest known locally as Ogba Agbo, which means “downside cave.” There, he harvested fresh palm fruits and also checked a beehive located in that area before returning home. He finally arrived home around 7pm, where his wife Ebere was still preparing dinner for the family. Once again, his son brought him water to drink after another long day of traditional village work. This video shows the real daily life of African village farmers, the hard work required to prepare farmland, and the simple but beautiful lifestyle of rural Africa.
