I wrote this song after thinking about that first Christmas night. When the shepherds heard the good news and ran off to Bethlehem, I thought about how responsible shepherds are. They wouldn't all run off...someone had to stay behind and watch the sheep. Then I started thinking about who would share about the birth of Christ with that shepherd. Merry Christmas 2024. I hope you get the opportunity to share your experience, strength and hope about what Jesus has done for you. John 10: 14 I am the good shepherd; and I now My sheep, and am known by My own. The Other Shepherd I was walking across the field one day and I saw a shepherd sitting there. And he was writing. I said, "Hey, aren't you one of those guys who was in the field that night?" He just kept writing, pretending not to hear. But then he nodded and he pointed...said, "It happened over there." He said, "Suddenly the night lite up and angels started singing. Heaven made a joyful sound." They said, "Hark the herald angels sing, glory to the new born King. There is peace on earth and mercy mild. God and sinner reconciled." Well, yeah, I was there that night but I wasn't one of them who ran off to Bethlehem to greet the One born King of Kings, Emanuel, and the Light of the world. But I knew those guys, I worked with them for years, a roughneck bunch But when they came back, they were grinning ear to ear. Changed men, not the same, and so excited when they told me about His name And that light that shone from everywhere was now shining through them And as they spoke I could see...that peace was there for me On that silent night, I have decided to follow Jesus All is calm, all is bright Cause I have decided to follow Jesus When I heard them share that first Christmas night.
