Josef Helfenstein, director of the Menil Collection, curated and organized Experiments with Truth: Gandhi and Images of Nonviolence (2014–2015) in consultation with Amar Kanwar, an independent filmaker based in Delhi, whose work connects to larger social and political issues of the Indian subcontinent. Helfenstein and Kanwar discuss the origins of the exhibition. A Season Outside (1998), perhaps Kanwar's best-know film, is a personal meditation on the philosophy of nonviolence and is included in the exhibition.
