They were installed in the 1970s upon construction of the building. Even though the building only has 7 floors above ground, a massive group of 4 lifts was chosen for the task to ensure vertical mobility. Originally, the lifts ran on Aconic controllers with geared machines and Dynatron 2 drives. In 2003 the lifts were modernised by Schindler. The control- and drive system was completely replaced, now running on MX-GC controllers and Variodyn drives. The original winches were replaced by P420 planetary geared machines manufactured by Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen (ZF). The most notable feature of the modernisation is the Miconic 10 destination dispatch system. Instead of calling a lift by selecting the direction (up or down), the user directly selects the destination floor and gets assigned a lift (A to D) which will ensure the fastest travel possible. Unbeknownst to the passenger, the Miconic 10 system will constantly distribute the unused lifts in the building. This minimizes wait time. A cabinet inside the lift car contains the so-called hidden box. Inside is another Miconic 10 keypad, which can be used to directly enter calls. Opening the hidden box sets the lift to car preference and it will therefore temporarily not serve terminal calls. This functionality is useful for goods transport and was shown in this video for demonstration purposes. As the car preference mode only accepts a single call, the lift will instantly reverse if a floor on the opposite side is entered while moving.
