This trip marks the beginning of something bigger. We headed into the historic Athabasca backcountry to start documenting trails that have been used for generations. The long-term goal is to build an Athabasca Backcountry Discovery Route—one that connects history, access, and responsible travel. The plan was to reach a beautiful overlook above the Athabasca River, but deeper-than-expected snow quickly changed the day. As engine and transmission temperatures climbed, we made the call to turn back. No hero runs—just smart decisions that let us come back another day. This wasn’t a failure. It was a first step. We’ll return in the spring to retrace our tracks, push further, and continue shaping the route—one trip at a time.
