There has been some debate on this topic, as some Ikwerre people identify separately from the Igbo, emphasizing a distinct heritage, while others recognize their close Igbo connections. Historically and linguistically, however, the Ikwerre language and culture are considered part of the larger Igbo subgroup. These study shared here confirms that the ikweres are Igbos using a method called dermatoglyphics which employs the patterns on the fingers and toes to trace lineage. The Ikwerre people are generally regarded as an ethnic group within the broader Igbo cultural and linguistic sphere. They live predominantly in Rivers State, Nigeria, particularly around the Port Harcourt area. While they share linguistic and cultural ties with the Igbo, the Ikwerre have their own unique identity and dialects. They are not related to the Bini people of Edo State, who have distinct cultural and linguistic backgrounds separate from both the Igbo and Ikwerre.
