Applications of Gauss's law, discussion, and understanding. Calculate electric field intensity inside a hollow conducting charged sphere. We can find electric field intensity at a point due to a point charge q placed in space by using the expression E=Kq/r^2. This expression is valid only if the charge under discussion is only a point charge. We cannot use this expression for 'spread charge' or any charge distribution. To find electric field intensity due to charge distribution can be found by using Gauss's law. Guess law on the other hand is much useful for the surfaces that are symmetric, have the same electric field intensity, and the surface is either parallel or perpendicular with E. Such closed surfaces are called Gaussian Surfaces. We make use of the Gaussian surface to fine electric field intensity at a point due to charge distribution by first calculating electric flux through that surface.
