The 6156-8010 “Special” was introduced in December 1970 with a hardened stainless steel (“HSS”) case and faceted sapphire crystal for 68,000 Yen. With the regular 6156-8000 (without the hardened steel case and faceted crystal) available for 53,000 Yen, perhaps at the time the premium asked for the HSS case seemed high, but from the perspective of almost 50 years, it surely was worth it, because the case on this watch is in tremendous condition. Additionally, the faceted sapphire crystal really does add another element of interest to the watch.
