@Gmc_kathua @GMCKathuaCulturalSociety Government Medical College, Kathua, proudly celebrated its Foundation Day today with immense pride and a spirit of unity. The event was graced by distinguished guests from Health & Medical Education Deptt., J&K, District Administration, Engineer Wing, Ex Faculty Members, social worker (i.e. Art of Living) and a series of captivating activities, showcasing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, environmental stewardship, and cultural vibrancy. Dr. Amrish Kohli, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, warmly welcomed the attendees, setting the tone for a memorable day. he was joined on stage by Dr. Dupinder Kour, Associate Professor, Department of Pathology, both of them played a key role in successfully organizing the day’s events in phased manner. Although unable to attend physically, Dr. Sayed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary to the Government, Health & Medical Education Department, J&K, joined the celebration virtually as the Chief Guest. Through video conferencing, he addressed the gathering and shared his invaluable insights with the participants, commending GMC Kathua's continued commitment to excellence in healthcare and education, achievements of GMC Kathua in the field of patient care and development of GMC Kathua from District Hospital, Kathua and he also assured his hand-to-hand support as a Head of the Department to GMC Kathua and employees for redressing problems as a one family and in the end of his address he was presented momento, which was collected by Sh. Chand Kishore, Additional Secretary, Health & Medical Department, J&K. A highlight of the event was an inspiring oration lecture delivered by Dr. (Prof.) M. Ashraf Ganie, Director of SKIMS and Ex-Officio Secretary, joined through video conferencing and delivered another insightful oration lecture on Diabetes Melilites, providing significant academic value to the occasion and shared his research work in this field. The day began with a Plantation Drive, a noble initiative underscoring GMC Kathua's commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. Faculty, staff, and students actively participated in this drive, reaffirming the institution’s mission toward a greener and healthier future. This was followed by the distribution of fruits to patients admitted to the various wards of the Associated Hospital at GMC Kathua, led by the Worthy Principal, HODs, Medical Superintendent, Deputy Medical Superintendent, and other faculty members and presented boutique to the guests by Dr Surinder Kumar Atri. Dr. Surinder K. Atri, Principal of GMC Kathua, presented the Annual Report for 2023-24, highlighting the remarkable achievements, milestones, and advancements made by the all departments of this institution. The report reflected GMC Kathua's commitment to excellence in medical education, research, and community health services and also he outlined the further course of action for the development in GMC Kathua towards expertise in the field of healthcare and specialized treatment for the welfare and upliftment of the patients and after which the prize in the shape of Medals and certificates were presented to the meritorious students of MBBS who excelled in the academic. The celebration peaked after lunch with a spectacular cultural event featuring an array of vibrant performances, including a traditional Solo song, group songs, group dances (i.e. Punjabi Gidda/Bangra, Ladakhi Dance, Rajasthani Dance, Dogri Dance), a small movie (small Web Series) on journey of MBBS, soulful solo singing and guitar performances, these were not only presented by students but faculty members also actively/physically took part in some of these events. The cultural program was meticulously organized under the guidance of Dr. Vineeta Sawhney, Professor & Head of Pharmacology and Chairperson of the Cultural Committee, GMC Kathua. Dr. Raj Rishi Sharma, Professor & Head of the Department of Surgery at GMC Kathua, concluded the event with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing deep gratitude to all attendees, faculty, and participants for their invaluable contributions to the success of the Foundation Day celebration. The event was a testament to GMC Kathua's unwavering dedication to academic excellence, environmental responsibility, and cultural heritage, embodying the institution's holistic approach to the development and well-being of its students and the community at large. #kathua
