Another Argas tick in addition to the one we already saw in one of the previous videos. The only difference is that in the previous video was, most likely, the pigeon tick Argas reflexus, and here, with a high probability, is the fowl tick Argas persicus. Text version of this video you can read here: https://jollyroacher.com/ticks/ixodid... If you need to identify unknown arthropods, send photos and videos of them to [email protected] - we will figure out who you found. This video and some pictures were sent by a viewer from India. He has pigeons nesting on the outside window of his apartment. After the chicks hatched, he removed the nest, and from that moment ticks - both adults, a little smaller than a cockroach, and small nymphs - began to creep into the apartment. Apparently, some of the ticks were hiding not in the nest, but in the cracks near it - under the windowsill, along the window frame, under the exterior plaster on the wall. When the nest was removed, they remained untouched, but then they did not find either a nest or birds in it, and went to look for food along the walls and inside the room, where the author of the video found them. It is unlikely that it will be possible to determine the species of tick from such a video, however, in India and Southeast Asia, the fowl tick Argas persicus is more common. In addition, a characteristic feature of the fowl tick is the yellow color of the covers of its body when it is hungry. Our specimen in the video has exactly such yellow body edges. However, it is not particularly important whether it is an Argas reflexus or Argas persicus. Both of these species have a similar lifestyle - they breed in places where various birds congregate, especially domestic birds: chickens, geese, ducks, pigeons. Here they climb on birds at night, suck their blood, and then hide for the day in secluded crevices. Here the females lay eggs, from which the larvae emerge. They grow, undergo several transformations and become sexually mature, and throughout their lives, from the moment they hatch, they bite their hosts and suck their blood. If there are no birds near the ticks' hiding places, they will attack any warm-blooded animal, including humans. Their bites are painful, the skin itches for a long time, and in some people they can cause severe allergies. Apparently, argas ticks are most often found in homes that are close to where birds are kept. These parasites are most common in private homes whose owners keep chickens, geese, turkeys, ducks and other birds in close proximity to the house. Regardless of whether such ticks were found in the coop or in the house, you need to immediately take action to get rid of them. If this is not done quickly, they will multiply and it will become harder and harder to exterminate them. You can get rid of argas ticks in the apartment by treating their places of hiding, accumulations and movements with insectoacaricidal spray remedies based on malathion, fention, deltamethrin and some other substances. Such agents kill ticks very quickly, and even a dry preparation on the surface will kill the parasite if it crawls on it. Therefore, as a rule, one thorough treatment of an infested room is enough to completely eliminate argas ticks, provided the preparation is left on the surfaces for at least a week. #pests #parasite #argas #tick
