Dad Charged in 'Hike from Hell' Confronted by Cops

Newly released police bodycam footage is revealing troubling warning signs in the case of Utah father Micah Smith — captured just one week before a mountain hike that left his three young children freezing, critically injured, and fighting for their lives. The video shows Smith pulled over by police, armed, driving a truck with no plates, and displaying behavior that an officer later documented as concerning for his mental state. That same officer seized Smith’s firearms and impounded his vehicle. Days later, prosecutors say Smith took his children on a dangerous hike during a winter storm, allegedly ignoring their pleas to turn back.
