Teaching is an act of kindness. Teaching is the art of educating or opening the mind to new and old ideas. A teacher's words can change a mind; and a look inspires life. Teachers have the capacity to act as powerful force that can improve society now and perhaps inspire the society we hope to create. Teaching has power. It can empower the powerless, change governments, free people, build and destroy nations and heal economies. Teachers can be a movement themselves. Peter will also share his thoughts on: • The contradictions that exist in our schools • How entrenched conformity opposes creativity • The inclusion that is in the core of global citizens • The outsourcing of education by society • How education is becoming a corporation. • That good education can cost a lot and a bad education can cost a generation. Peter Kenny left school when he was 15 to join the Royal Australian Air Force, where he spent a decade as an aircraft engineer. After that, he went on to complete a Diploma in Teaching, a Bachelor of Education and a Masters in Educational Leadership. He also gained lots of teaching experience in his time at St. Ignatius College, Australia. Peter left Australia in 1998 to teach internationally. In 2002, he was appointed regional manager of Asia Pacific and Head of Projects for the IB, where he initiated reconstruction projects in Aceh and Sri Lanka following the 2004 Tsunami. In December 2005, he was appointed Founding Principal of Renaissance College in Hong Kong (RCHK). Peter is Founding CEO of Reach Education Organization. He has been working with Branksome Hall, Canada, as Director of Branksome Hall Asia. In 2012, BHA won first prize in the South Korean Architectural and Construction Awards. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
