Many times patients are unable to pass urine but they do not have any blockage in their urine passage. They may have a weakness in the muscles of their urinary bladder which can lead to poor flow rates. This can be best confirmed by a special test called urodynamics. In the urodynamics test we put in a few catheters in the urine passage as well as the rectum to measure the pressure created by the abdominal as well as bladder muscles. This test takes about 1 hour where the work of the bladder, urine passage and muscles of the sphincter are carefully studied. For many complicated urinary problem where the cause of poor flow of urine is not properly understood or diagnosed, this test can be a guiding light to make a clear cut diagnosis and start proper treatment.
