In February of 2021 bought a 1999 Specialized Hardrock for only $65.00. Although the bike had spent a lot of time outdoors, it wass structurally sound. The Cro-Mo steel frame and welds are all in good shape. The metallic ruby red paint is gorgeous, but there is a lot of wear and scratches on it, which I decided to retain. I have upgraded the bike a couple times after I rebuilt it. I still enjoy riding mountain bike trails on it despite being a rigid bike. Lately, though, I've been riding it on local paved rail trial, and back and forth to work. So, it's mountain bike characteristics were really not being used. I decided to get a second set of wheels and mount all road tires on them. This way, I can ride the bike in either mountain bike or road-ish bike configuration.
