So you and your family are all super excited to purchase a boat and make some memories. You get online to start shopping only to become overwhelmed by options. There are: (List off) You might even possibly go to a boat show, walk inside, and guess what? Boats everywhere, styles, sizes, options, costs! So what do you do? Well my name is Brandon Johnson, and today’s video is all about helping you discover what style boat will be the best choice for your family I truly believe step 1 is to set a budget. If you plan on paying cash, your budget is set. If financing works better for you, I have included a full informative boat financing video on the description below to assist you. That being said, step 2 in the boat buying process is to find the right size and style that works best for you. I want to equip with the information you need in order to make a decision based on your own knowledge vs what a salesperson wants you to buy. What do I mean by this? I don’t want to get off topic but let’s take a few seconds here to show why this is tremendously important. I know 2 sales people very well that we will use for examples, as well as myself. Each of us are very different. In order to protect the identities of the other 2 salespeople we’ll use code names: Salesperson 1, his name is Tom the Iceman Kazansky. The Iceman hates boats, and he hates boating. He does love sales. If you ask The Iceman for advice about what you should buy, what direction to feel he will take you? In my mind, I believe he will take to whatever is in your comfortable budget range that he can make the biggest commission on. Therefor, is this salesperson going to give you the absolute perfect option? Salesperson 2, Ron the Slider Kerner. The Slider enjoys boating. He even likes boats, only certain kinds though. Not only certain kinds, he hates selling anything with a lower price tag. The Slider feels that anything under 40k is too much effort to sell than the commission will cover so it’s not worth his time. So again, is this salesperson going to give you the absolute perfect option? Me, or let’s say, someone like me: I love boats and boating, spend most weekends on the water and almost every morning fishing with my 3 year old. I’m not unique nor special, but I did grow up very poor so I identify with the old saying, “champagne taste on a beer budget all to well.” After almost 2 decades I understand that if I sell someone something that they aren’t happy with, the chance for them to come back or refer to me in the future, isn’t likely. So I do everything I can to make sure my customers buy what’s right for them. Will I give you your perfect option? Size: We’ll call it the 3 S’s of boat sizes for you to keep in mind. S1 is storage or slippage. If you have a 24’ slip, you know 24’ is your ideal size. If you tow your boat, your tow rating combined with your storage measurements will give you the exact size you are looking for. S2 is seating capacity. If you have a family of 6 like I do, a boat with a capacity rating of 5, is no good at all. Different sizes of boats offer different seating configurations, thus provide various seating capacities allowed in each vessel. In the description below I have included a link to a video which explains this in full detail. S3 is seas. Yes, seas, which is the environment where you plan to use the boat. If you are on a private lake with a 20’ max length, your decision has been made for you. If you boat at the Lake of the Ozarks where we are, a 18’ open bow at the 6MM is literally dangerous to even attempt to use. So please research the ideal sizes of boats that work wherever you plan on using it because this will play a major factor in your decision. S4 is Speed Styles: #1 Open Bow #2 Deck Boats #3 Fishing Boats #4 Closed Bow #5 Pontoon/Tritoons Now, let’s assume you’ve got your budget in order, an ideal size range in mind, are ready to break into styles of boats.
