#Jnu #Southasianstudies #SIS #SIS50 #phd #ResearchProposal #CSAS Hi, I am Sayantan Bandyopadhyay, Centre for South Asian Studies, SIS, JNU. My Interest Areas are South Asia, Indian Foreign Policy and Climate Politics. To begin the process of PhD Interviews and admissions, you need to choose the probable topics. This requires a bit of brainstorming where you need to list all topics which comes to your mind on the 8 nations of SAARC (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Afghanistan, Maldives & Sri Lanka) and chose the topics on the basis of three criteria’s which are relevance in contemporary times, your interest and strategy (feasible or not in terms of conducting the Research). After selecting the topic, you need to SIS Research manual which can be easily downloaded by a Google Search and go to Chapter 3 of the Manual which has the details of PhD Synopsis. Your PhD Research proposal needs to be made on the basis of this format and use the Referencing, Font Style and Size, Spacing and even Title Page as explicitly stated in this manual. The faculty members don’t expect perfection from you but expects you to read this manual and follow it to the best of your abilities. When you start making the Research Proposal(RP) you will need to do a comprehensive Literature Review(LR) and have a fair idea of the Research methodology(RM) .For LR use Google Scholar , find the main articles , all schools of thought in the argument and for RM you can use Research Methodology(Methods and Techniques) by C.R Kothari or Sandra Halperin and Oliver Heath’s Book Political Research: Methods and Practical Skills(My personal favourite as it is written in a very lucid language). When you read any literature make a list of all literature you have studied in a summary document .Go through the Literature and use Reverse Engineering by looking up the References and reading those ideas. Try to make your LR in a thematic fashion and your LR will lead to all the future portions like Research Gap , Definition , Scope and Rationale of Research and then Research Questions , hypothesis and the Research mythology . RM will have four parts - Research Design, Data Collection Strategies (Both Primary and Secondary Data) , Data Analysis and Data Integration by using triangulation. The Interview will have preparations for three specific portions which are HR Round(Questions on your background ,Favourite subject etc) , Technical Round (Questions on RM), Research Proposal and outliers(Anything under the Sun). So please prepare accordingly for the 1st three portions as 80% of marks will come from the 1st three which will be covered in a future video. Try to talk with seniors on your RP as it may help you to get a fresh perspective on mistakes and try to give mocks with your friends for interview preparations.
