For most of us, happiness feels like something we’re supposed to pursue. Build the right habits. Think the right thoughts.Optimize the right parts of life. But psychology suggests something strange: the more directly people chase happiness, the more disappointed they often feel when it doesn’t arrive. In this video, I explore what research says about the paradox of happiness — why trying to feel better can sometimes make us feel worse, and why meaning, engagement, and connection may matter more than emotional optimization. This isn’t an argument against growth or self-reflection. It’s an attempt to understand what actually makes a life feel satisfying. Sometimes the things we’re chasing the hardest are the things that only show up when we stop chasing them.
