The genus Asclepias has become incredibly important in recent years and we have witnessed the Monarch Butterfly population decline substantially. However, there is one genus of plants that can absolutely help their population, and that would be the genus Asclepias. Within Asclepias there is A. tuberosa the Butterfly Weed, A. incarnata the Swamp Milkweed, and A. syriaca Milkweed. All of these North American native plants will produce lovely seed pods at the end of their blooming cycle that can be easily harvested.
