Insta -   / hrsht.dwivedi   The extensive use of Ozone Depleting Substances and the appearance of a huge ozone layer over Antarctica Continent brought international attention towards the issue of ozone layer depletion and hence Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer was signed in 1985 and under it Montreal Protocol was signed on 16th September 1987 and this protocol was binding on member countries. 197 countries have ratified Montreal Protocol and this is the first treaty to achieve universal ratification. 16th September has been designated as the World Ozone Day since 1995. The Multilateral fund has been designed to help developing countries implement montreal protocol. Indian signed montreal protocol in 1992. Watch the video for more details.
