I'm a doctor, a physician of rehabilitation medicine in a residency at New York University Medical Center. I have a PhD in the field of medical geography and I studied for my dissertation the use of cannabis in the state of Washington in the medical system there. I recently was inducted into the New York Academy of Medicine as an associate member and I have about a dozen or so peer-reviewed publications in scientific and medical journals on issues regarding medical cannabis or cannabis related dosing, science, safety, and even health and human rights issues. I'm a board member of the Americans for Safe Access Foundation, which is working to bring cannabis's medical benefits to all who may benefit from it. One thing important about my biography that I think you should know is that I'm actually an Okie from Muskogee. I was born and raised in a small town in the buckle of the Bible Belt called Muskogee, Oklahoma. I guess that's important when it comes to marijuana because there's a famous song called Okie from Muskogee by Merle Haggard from the 70s which started with the line, we don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee. It was basically a counter, counter-culture reaction to the Vietnam War protestors. Even an Okie from Muskogee can know something about marijuana and hopefully we can kind of break down our barriers between which places are okay with marijuana and which places are not because really that's part of our culture wars.
