Chinese scientists have reached a major milestone in the development of the country's "artificial sun" known as the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak, or EAST. In the global race to build the first viable nuclear fusion reactor, China's EAST, located in Hefei City, has recently achieved a steady-state high-confinement plasma operation for a remarkable 1,066 seconds, a new world record. Over the years, the EAST team has made several breakthroughs, including sustaining plasma for 30 seconds in 2012, 60 seconds in 2016, and 403 seconds in 2023.
